Loughborough University Swimming Club is the Country’s number one, not just in student sport, but nationally. In swimming, Loughborough is a Chelsea or Manchester United, and like them is also striving to be amongst the World’s best and to develop it’s swimmers to their maximum potential.
In 2012 Loughborough Swimming had 14 swimmers attend the Olympic Games and 1 swimmer attend the Paralympics representing Great Britain, Ireland and Luxembourg.
Since the 2000 Olympic Games we have produced a host of British, Commonwealth, European, World Student Games and World medallists. The swimmers have set numerous World, European, Commonwealth, British, English, Welsh, Scottish & Irish Records. We have been the British Universities National Champions for the past 20 plus years.
Swimmers can access 6 squads (including British Swimming’s High Performance Squads) under the direction of seven full-time professional coaches and many assistant coaches. The staff are well qualified and highly experienced with varied coaching styles.
There are currently no coached groups below our six squads.
Don’t just take it from us; see below some thoughts from one of our current swimmers.
I came to visit Loughborough and knew that for me, if I seriously wanted to carry on with my swimming and get a degree this would be the only place to do it. Mainly because the swimming and the studies are integrated, the whole environment enables you to succeed in both, as well as meeting new people and experiencing the University lifestyle. The pool is a short walk from where you live in first year and all the swimmers live together which helps with getting up for morning training, getting to know people on the team and finding the balance between training and studies. The training when I came to Loughborough was very different to what I had experienced at my home club, a more junior, generic, metres based programme, to a more specific, senior programme at Loughborough. The training and the whole environment really revitalised my enjoyment of swimming.
