Anthony ‘Tony’ Waiters

Tony Waiters, former professional goalkeeper, began his career with Blackpool FC (1959-1967) before appearing for Burnley FC (1970- 1972).

He was selected to play for the English national squad five times in the mid-1960s and also made five appearances for the English League All-Stars. After retiring from the field of play he enjoyed a successful career as a manager and coach including a spell as Manager and Coach of the England Youth Team.

In 1977, he crossed the Atlantic to become President and General Manager of the American Soccer League Team – the Whitecaps. This led to his appointment as Manager and Coach for the Canadian World Cup and Olympic Teams. He was eventually appointed President of the National Soccer Coaches Association of Canada. He remains closely involved in the development of soccer in Canada and the USA.
