As a rugby player, John achieved 26 caps for Wales. He is probably remembered most for the 1971 touch-line kick against Scotland which gave Wales a 19-18 victory and setup the Grand Slam.

With the British Lions, he toured South Africa in 1968 and was part of the legendary team that beat the All Blacks in a New Zealand series for the first time in 1971.

After retiring from the field, John enjoyed success as a commentator and journalist, he was chief television commentator at 4 World Cups (including England’s win in 2003) before switching to radio in 2011.

He has also made numerous films about coaching and rugby. In 2006, he was inducted in the Welsh Hall of Fame and voted Wales’s greatest ever number 7.
