John Sherwood is an athlete who won the bronze medal in the 1968 Mexico City Olympic Games for the 400 metres hurdles. He also won a gold medal in the 1970 Commonwealth Games.

John was also well known as a regular on the popular television programme Superstars, aired in the Seventies.

John studied at Loughborough which lead to him teaching PE for 40 years, 37 of which were at Firth Park Community Arts College, Sheffield.

John retired in 2006 after a finale school sports day which was closed with an address from Lord Coe, who described how John, and his wife long jumper Sheila Sherwood, had inspired him to pursue athletics.
