Doug Scott is a mountaineer, best known for being the first Briton to ascend Mount Everest in 1975, with Dougal Haston, up the previously unclimbed south-west face.
Doug began climbing at the age of 12 after his interest had been sparked by a trip to Derbyshire with the Scouts.
Doug has made 45 expeditions to the high mountains of Asia. He has reached the highest peaks on all seven continents – known as the ‘seven summits.’ In recognition of his feats Doug was made a CBE in 1994.
In 2011 he received the Lifetime Contribution Award at the Piolet d’Or Awards in Chamonix. Doug’s personal style and climbs were described as “visionary”.
