Intramural sport (IMS) is a free programme of hall sport open to every Loughborough University and College student. A mixture of one day events and weekly leagues making up over 70 weekly fixtures means there is never a shortage of sport to take part in, be it by competing for or cheering on your hall. Every hall is competing to win points with the aim of being crowned IMS champion at the awards evening at the end of the year. It’s a fantastic way to make friends within your hall and it helps you to really get the most out of your hall experience.
With over 40 different sports making up the programme you can get involved in your favourite sport like netball or football or try something completely new, like ultimate Frisbee, canoe or handball. This isn’t just for first years in halls! Anyone can choose to affiliate to a hall so that you can get the full IMS experience.
How it works;
Each hall of residences will enter a team into every league and one day event across the year. Points are awarded based on the grading of the sport and the position the hall finishes. The hall that has the most points at the end of the year is crowned the overall winner at the IMS presentation evening. Different sports are graded to be worth different amount of points, see Men’s or Women’s sports (from the contents Menu) to see the hierarchy. Most league matches score 5pts for a win, 4pts for a draw and 3pts for a loss. Dates for IMS events can be found here
Towards the end of the academic year, each of the 16 halls pick their best players to represent the IMS Allstars team in a one-off match against the University. Every year the contest is very closely fought, showcasing just how strong the IMS players are!
