What opportunities are there?
Here at the CVA we have a wide range of different events opportunities for you to get involved in! These range from marshalling and registering famous athletes, to sitting down with other students to plan an entirely new event from scratch. Alternatively, you could be commentating and directing lighting at events, or even planning sports festivals to get as many people active as possible. If you are interested in the events industry, or simply getting up close with high level sport, we are sure to have an opportunity for you.
Check out our Case Studies page to see examples of previous students who have benefited from this experience!
How will it work?
The usual route into a career in events stems from volunteering your time at a number of well-established events. As a result of this, you will gain a vast understanding of the different components of events and the wide range of tasks that need completing. The students that become well known for volunteering at events are those that are most likely to be selected for management style events positions.
When will it happen?
General events volunteers will be needed periodically throughout the year. The main events we supply volunteers to are the Loughborough Lightning badminton, netball and cricket, the Loughborough International Athletics and our Rugby National League One fixtures. On top of these internal events, we also encourage volunteers to offer their assistance at numerous external events.
Our Sports Presentation programme is run by Alan March Sport Ltd, giving students an overview of all elements involved in hosting an event including floor management, logistics, lighting, sound and commentating. This programme will be recruiting prior to Christmas 2016, and the volunteers will deliver the entire year of lightning fixtures. This can also lead to sport presentation opportunities at external events.
2016 saw the first year that a group of Loughborough students successfully event managed Loughborough University’s first GO-Tri Triathlon. Ten students formed two teams of event managers to plan and deliver the operations and marketing of this event. These students will be recruited October 2016 and will then work through the year to deliver the triathlon before Easter 2017.
A new opportunity we have this year is the chance to be part of Loughborough Sport’s ‘Sport Fest’ series. You may remember attending Football Fest, or Tennis Fest last year? If so, this year you can apply to plan and deliver this event, alongside a student who holds a position with recreational sport. These positions will come up periodically throughout the year, so check the CVA Portal regularly for news on these.
