What opportunities are there?
Are you interested in coaching competitive sport and preparing athletes for sporting competition? Do you aspire to teach PE and sport in schools and communities? Or do you just enjoy leading sports sessions with a variety of participants? If so there is a coaching pathway perfect for you!
Our SportMAD programme (Sport Making a Difference) allows you to gain qualifications and apply the skills you have learnt, coaching in local schools and/or community clubs across Leicestershire.
As well as coaching in schools and communities, you can also coach through the AU, performance sports, department sports, society sport, Spirit of Rugby programme or externally. Please see our We Support page for more information on these opportunities.
Check out our Case Studies page to see how previous students have benefited from this experience!
How will it work?
To deliver as part of our SportMAD programme in schools and/or communities, you would need to hold a qualification in that sport. If you don’t have a qualification, we can offer you a reduced or fully funded course. Details of the courses and costs can be found on the CVA Portal.
Please be aware that only the coaching or officiating qualifications which we host internally here at Loughborough University are advertised on the CVA Portal. This does not mean we will not be able to support you through other sports; this just needs to be arranged on an individual basis and in partnership with your National Governing Body. Please email email@example.com if you have any specific requirements for qualifications in sports not listed on the CVA Portal.
Where we have funded your course/qualification, you are asked to volunteer and ‘give back’ a certain number of hours coaching either through the SportMAD programme or coaching at the university.
We also run CPD sessions (Continuous Professional Development), Masterclasses, First Aid and Safeguarding courses to upskill your training and development as a coach.
(Please note, we are unfortunately not able to fund everyone through a qualification but will offer reductions where we can. Additionally, if you cancel 7 days or less before the course, there will be a cancellation fee).
When will it happen?
Courses are available throughout the year – often we run these courses internally; other times we may provide funding for you to undertake a qualification elsewhere.
Our courses will be advertised on the CVA Portal. External courses can usually be found on National Governing Body or County Sports Partnership websites.
Coaching through SportMAD is arranged by us or you can also arrange this independently. The timing of coaching sessions depends upon the schools’/clubs’ schedules, as well as your own timetable and, where possible, is at your preferred location.
How to be part of this?
Sign up to one of our courses through the CVA Portal. For external courses/qualifications or for queries, drop us an email: firstname.lastname@example.org.
