Loughborough Lightning stalwarts Sonia Odedra, Lucy Higham and Abi Freeborn are the latest names to be confirmed in the Loughborough University sides’ final squad for the 2018 Kia Super League (KSL), which gets underway in July.
Odedra has been part of the Lightning setup since day one, taking valuable wickets for the side in their successful 2016 campaign. After a disappointing KSL campaign in 2017 Lightning will be hoping to at least match their 2016 performance, where they made Finals Day, and will look to Odedra in attack at key moments.
The Leicester local, who hopes to add to her single England cap at some point in the coming years, believes there is no reason Lightning can’t go all the way this year.
“We have a very strong side this year with a lot of experience and I believe we have a very good chance at lifting the trophy at the end of the season. I can’t wait to get started!”
Joining Odedra in the squad are Freeborn and Higham, who just last week were part of the victorious Loughborough University side who hammered Durham on the Nursery Ground at Lords to lift the BUCS 50 Over Championship.
Last season was a big breakthrough for the 20 year old Spin bowler Higham, notably with then Head Coach Sall Briggs placing on record how impressed she was that the youngster had stepped up to the plate.
Meanwhile 21 year old Freeborn has ambitions of breaking into the Lightning starting line-up, having been a key squad member last summer. Freeborn played a vital role in the big win against Thunder last year with bat and keeping wicket. The right handed batter has been in regular action so far this season for Sussex and will hope to take her good form into the KSL season.
Freeborn, like Higham, is now in her second season with Lightning.
The 2018 Kia Super League season gets underway in a month’s time, with Lightning’s first game on 22 July. Tickets for all of the sides’ home games can be purchased by clicking here.
