UEFA Under-17 Championships get underway this weekend

Want to see the next Wayne Rooney or Cristiano Ronaldo in action right here on the Loughborough University campus? Well it’s your lucky day, as the European Under-17 Championships get underway in earnest on Saturday 5 May, with five of the group stage matches taking place at the University Stadium.

With England having enjoyed unprecedented junior success over the last 12 months, winning the U17 FIFA World Cup, the U20 FIFA World Cup, and the UEFA U19 European Championships, hopes are high for the home tournament, which gets underway on Friday night when the hosts take on Israel.

With many of the stars of the future coming through this tournament, Rooney and Ronaldo are joined by the likes of Paul Pogba and Mario Gotze who all set the tournament alight before going on to achieve huge success in the senior game.

Chosen as one of five host venues, Loughborough will house five group games, with Burton Albion, Chesterfield, Rotherham and Walsall home to the other 19 group stage matches.

Ticket prices start at just £2 for concessions and £4 for adults, with school groups able to access free tickets.
