We are thrilled to announce that former Loughborough University Sport Scholar, Rob Taylor will take over the role as Head Coach of the Loughborough Lightning Cricket Kia Super League squad for the 2018 season.
With a wealth of playing experience at both professional and international level cricket, with Leicestershire CCC and Scotland, the role as head coach will be his first opportunity to head up the MCCU/Lightning programme.
Taylor will become successor to Salliann Briggs who recently announced her departure from the University to take up the role of Head Coach of Cricket Tasmania’s women’s teams.
Talking about the Taylor’s appointment ahead for the 2018 season Briggs said:
“It’s great that Rob will be able to transition into the Head Coach role so quickly. He has been involved in the programme for over a year, so he knows the organisation and the girls very well. Rob is very well organised, professional and incredibly passionate about women’s cricket, I’m very confident he will lead the Lightning programme to great things and I wish him, all the staff and the girls all the best for this season.”
Having worked previously as Assistant Coach with the MCCU programme over the last two winters and with Lightning last summer, Rob is looking forward to building on the hard work that has been put in over this time.
Looking to the season ahead Taylor said:
“All the staff and players are working really hard at making sure we are ready for when the season starts. We’ve put a real focus on the KSL in our training this winter and hopefully this puts us in a position to be competitive in the Super League. The squad of players we have is exciting and I’m looking forward to seeing the girls express themselves out on the pitch. With us having 10 games this year it gives us a great chance to build some momentum through the tournament and with four games at Loughborough we want to make it a hard place for opposition to come and play.”
Lightning will kick start their campaign on the 22nd July 2018 against Lancashire Thunder.
