PlayerTek helping to drive Loughborough University’s sporting performance

What makes the best the best is often the strive for perfection, and staying true to that mantra Loughborough Sport has been using industry leading software from PlayerTek to continue to stay ahead of the pack.

The world’s number one university for sport has been using the performance monitoring software across a number of its sports teams and international stars, with tracking and evaluation allowing them to gain more from every game, competition or training session.

PlayerTek provides revolutionary wearable GPS technology that tracks, analyses and improves the performance of teams and individual players. In Loughborough’s case the men’s and women’s hockey and rugby programmes have been making use of the software, with ten further multisport units being utilised. Collecting performance data can be a huge benefit to players, coaches and trainers, whether it is advancing performance or spotting fatigue early and helping to reduce injury risk.

PlayerTek’s innovative technology uses heat maps based on accurate positional GPS data to measure how a player’s positioning changes throughout the game, allowing athletes and coaches to judge performance against the team’s wider strategy. Additional metrics include distance covered, speed, player load, work ratio and impacts, amongst a whole range of other datasets.

Loughborough Sport’s Head of Performance Analysis Andy Rhys-Jones said:

The addition of PlayerTek GPS is now pivotal to the way we manage our players from a physical perspective. It has increased the specificity and accuracy of our players’ training loads and return from injury, and also allows us to integrate our technical and tactical data with precise physical performance data. Playertek GPS also adds significantly to the quality of experience we can deliver for our volunteers and placement students, so is a great addition to our overall pathway here at Loughborough.

Scotland international and Loughborough Lightning Rugby captain Rachel Malcolm also commented:

For most of the team, this is the first time they’ve used such in depth analysis software, so it’s really helping. Being a new side, who are working hard on a number of different areas, PlayerTek has really helped to focus our attention on areas of our play that need the most work.

Kevin McDaid, Head of Technology at PlayerTek, added:

We are delighted to be partnering with Loughborough University. To have PlayerTek used by one of the most prestigious sports universities in the world, and by international athletes, is a testament to the quality of our technology. We are looking forward to PlayerTek being incorporated into Loughborough Sport’s holistic athlete programmes and hearing of the teams’ successes.
