Lightning Rugby hoping to take the sting out of Wasps tail

After a week off in the Tyrells Premier 15’s Lightning Rugby are chomping at the bit to get back into action this week against Wasps Ladies. With a significant away win at Waterloo under their belt last time out, Lightning will be looking for a win at home on Saturday afternoon.

After putting on a show for the away crowd at Firwood Waterloo a few weeks ago, Lightning have really shown what they are capable of, with tries being scored by both the forwards and backs.  Lightning will have to raise their game however as this week sees them take on a team that sent shock waves through the league as by beating top of the table Saracens, ending their unbeaten run.

With their last encounter being one that Lightning will want to put firmly behind them after losing 45-5, Lightning have a point to prove. With the Six Nations in full swing this weekend both teams will not be without loss, Lightning losing no fewer than six of their players to international duty.

Speaking about the challenge ahead of Lightning this weekend Head Coach Rhys Edwards said:

“We are thrilled to have the six girls called up to international duty this week; it’s a real testament to the hard work they have put in over the season. That being said missing six girls is not something that we worry about, the strength and depth of the Lightning squad is amazing and we have plenty of girls waiting for their chance to step up and prove themselves on the pitch.

“Our last outing at Wasps was not one that we are proud of and are now focused on showing them what we can do if we turn up and play the fast, exciting rugby we are known for. Wasps are a tough team with some dangerous individual players, so it is crucial that we stop them from getting the ball. We are ready of a physical game and the girls are excited to show that we can compete with the best, and this weekend is a great opportunity to show that.”

The game takes place at Loughborough University on Saturday 3rd February, 3pm kick off.
