Loughborough University is pleased to confirm that its status as a Tier 1 Grassroots Football Hub has been extended until 2020.
For the past 12 months Loughborough has been supported by The Football Association and BUCS to operate at this level and it has now been confirmed that the funding will be in place until summer 2020. This long-term agreement will allow real growth within football development both internally and in the local community.
Thanks to the relationship with BUCS and The FA, the Loughborough Football Programme will be further advanced, whilst our Graduate Football Intern will continue to make a positive impact supporting local schools and clubs.
It is an exciting time for football at Loughborough, with new Director of Football Richard Allen, who joins from The FA, commencing his role in January. Allen will oversee all aspects of football, whilst also supporting the UEFA European Under-17 Championships in May, with Loughborough chosen as one of six tournament venues.
Of the great strides football at Loughborough is making, Performance and Development Director Richard Wheater commented:
We are really pleased to extend our Tier 1 Grassroots status for another three years, which confirms the good work we’re doing in this area, spearheaded by our Sport Experience Team. It’s also the latest piece of good news for our Football Programme, which I’m sure will continue to go from strength to strength when Richard joins us as Director of Football in the new year.
