Lightning mid-courters Beth Cobden and Nat Panagarry played their part in a historic England triumph at the Fast5 Netball World Series this weekend, securing victory in the Grand Final in Melbourne.
Taking on Jamaica in the final, the England Roses took an early lead before the Sunshine Girls pegged them back. Going into the final quarter it could have gone either way, but England stayed strong to run out 34-29 winners.
The Roses previously won the 2011 World Netball Series, which was held under the older fastnet rules, but this is their first Series title since the new Fast5 rules were introduced in 2012.
Jamaica came into the Grand Final with a 100 percent record in the tournament but struggled to make their Power Play count due to England’s resolute defensive pressure.
For Cobden and Panagarry, it’s been a golden few weeks, having won the domestic Fast5s tournament at the O2 Arena demonstrating their good form an ensuring their places in the England side.
