Loughborough Students Rugby Football Club (LSRFC) headline sponsor, Phaidon International, delivered a workshop on campus last week to give student-athletes an insight into how to optimise their CVs, interview skills and make the most of networking opportunities.
Attended by over 60 of performance athletes from a range of sports and academic programmes, the workshop was a new initiative the sponsor has implemented to help Loughborough University students make the transition into the professional world upon graduation.
Phaidon International is a specialist, multiple-brand global recruitment group. From its local hubs in Europe, North America, and Asia, Phaidon deliver permanent, contract and project-based recruitment services across the STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) landscape.
Led by Nick Gatenby, Phaidon’s Head of Learning and Development and Jo Watt, Operations Director, the workshop encouraged individuals to demonstrate their transferable skills picked up through performance sport.
Of the workshop rugby player Theo Vukasinovic said:
The Phaidon careers day was very useful as it opened our eyes as to what recruiters are really looking for, whilst also combining skills we have achieved from being elite athletes. It was very enjoyable and everyone there took a lot from the session.
His teammate Jack Moates added:
The talks we had from Nick and Jo from Phaidon were very insightful and beneficial for those of us looking at applying for jobs in the next year or two, as they gave us clear, helpful tips for improving our CV’s and the interview process.
Education and Development Manager Simon Wombwell also praised the event:
It has been an excellent experience working with Phaidon International to progress our workshop programme, designed to develop student-athlete preparedness for upcoming transitions. The opportunity for student athletes to receive tailored delivery from an established and respected global recruitment company carries unquantifiable value.
Loughborough Sport looks forward to continuing to strengthen our partnership with Phaidon International into the future.
