Loughborough Lightning Netball is delighted to confirm the appointment for Emily Perry, who will take on a new role as Lightning Pathway Head Coach from the end of the month.
Perry has an extremely strong coaching pedigree, demonstrated by leading England U21s to a third place finish at the Netball World Youth Cup and a decade-long stint with Team Bath. Continuing her new England Netball role as Futures Coach for the 2017/18 International season, Perry will take on a similar remit with the Loughborough Lightning U21 side, as well as the Loughborough University 1s, who will be looking to defend their BUCS title in 2017-18.
Perry’s remit will also extend to overseeing the full Loughborough Lightning pathway, working with the Head Coach to ensure the success of the other University and Lightning age-group teams.
Of the move Perry said:
I’m really looking forward to joining Loughborough Lightning and am delighted they have given me the opportunity to combine this role with my work with England Netball. I have no doubt that the performance environment at Loughborough is a place where we can continue to develop elite athletes for the Superleague and the international stage.
I have thoroughly enjoyed my 11 years at Team Bath Netball and want to thank them for supporting me and giving endless opportunities to develop and chances to work with elite players and coaches. It has been a fantastic journey and I wish them every success moving forward.
Loughborough Sport Performance Director Richard Wheater commented:
This is another great step forward for the franchise and will hugely help develop the next generation of talent for the University, Lightning and hopefully England in years to come.
Emily is an exciting acquisition in terms of driving our coach development pathway forward; providing high quality sessions for the pathway players and quality CPD sessions for our pathway coaches. We are continuing to build a great holistic player and person development environment at Loughborough Lightning and we are looking forward to the challenges ahead.
With current Head Coach Karen Atkinson leaving Lightning, the team is currently recruiting a Director of Netball ahead of the 2018 VNSL season.
