Rugby Programme Manager Dave Bassett will be leaving Loughborough Students Rugby Football Club (LSRFC) at the start of July to take up an exciting role with Premiership club Leicester Tigers.
The Loughborough University graduate returned to Loughborough three years ago, having been Director of Rugby at Lichfield, to take up his current Programme Manager role. During that time the rugby club has gone from strength to strength, consolidating its league status and reaching two BUCS Championship finals.
Bassett also has a strong playing pedigree, as during his four years studying Politics with Economics and subsequently an MSc in Management he played for the 1st XV, captaining the side in 2004-05, and also played for England Students in 2005 and 2006.
Of his time at Loughborough Bassett said:
I have very much enjoyed my time back at Loughborough University; it is truly an amazing place and a brilliant environment in which to develop as a person.
It has been a privilege and pleasure to work with all the players, staff, supporters and volunteers over the past three years and I would like to thank all of them for their support and hard work. There have been some remarkable young men who have graduated or will continue to study and I look forward to watching their progress. They have all made a great contribution to Loughborough Rugby and helped create a fantastic culture.
I am delighted to be moving on to join Leicester Tigers; they are a club synonymous with English and European club rugby, incredibly well supported and highly successful. I greatly admire the club culture and I am looking forward to contributing to the club’s vision of being the best rugby club in the world.
Commenting on his contribution to Loughborough Performance Director Richard Wheater said:
Bass has made a huge contribution to Loughborough Rugby over the years from playing through to leading our programme management. He has made excellent contributions both on and off the pitch. An honest, hardworking, dedicated and loyal guy, we will all miss him greatly and wish him all the best. We do, of course, hope to still see him on a regular basis.
