Loughborough University alumna and Rio 2016 hockey star Maddie Hinch has been named UK Hockey Player of the Year by members of the Hockey Writers’ Club.
On 25th January, the Hockey Writer’s Club announced their players of the year at their annual awards presentation lunch, held in Knightsbridge, London. A poll was conducted of members of the Hockey Writer’s Club, placing Maddie as the clear winner.
The accolade won’t have been a surprise to many, as Hinch, widely regarded as one of the world’s best goalkeepers, saved all four penalties during the shootout in the Olympic final, to ensure Team GB won gold.
A Sport and Exercise Science graduate, Maddie was selected for the second consecutive year, and was also awarded this title by members of the Hockey Writer’s Club back in 2013.
It is a great honour to pick up this award which is made extra special off the back of so many strong individual performances in Rio.
Many congratulations to Maddie from Loughborough University on this great recognition.
