A sensational goalkeeping display from University graduate Maddie Hinch, including three saves in the shootout, ensured that England were victorious and they picked up the trophy for the first time since 1991.

The Netherlands, who are World and Olympic Champions, took a two goal lead in the final, played at the Lee Valley Hockey and Tennis Centre.

But England fought back to equalise to send the match into a shootout.  A strong start from the hosts saw them surge into a 3-1 lead, and when Eva De Goede was unable to beat Maddie Hinch England were crowned EuroHockey champions.

The Loughborough contingent in the England squad also included Giselle Ansley, Laura Unsworth, Hannah Macleod, Nicola White, and Head Coach Danny Kerry.
