The selection process in run over a number of days and requires athletes to attend each session if successful in progressing to the next stage.

HOW TO SIGN UP:
Each student must complete an online registration form, detailing their preferred positions. It is important that when specifying your preferred position that you are certain about where you want to play. The committee take great care to organise rounds ahead of time in order to offer fair court time for all trialists. Changes on the day are difficult to manage and cause disruption to the schedule.

WHAT TO EXPECT AT TRIALS
The netball club is one of the largest AU Clubs on campus and the first trial date will usually see between 100-200 students putting themselves forward for selection. We usually select up to 12 students per team.

Due to the large volume of trialists, we aim to offer each student the opportunity to be seen in their 1st position at least once and in their 2nd/3rd position at least once. Please note, that due to the popularity of certain positions, some students may get more court time if there are limited trialists in their positions.

WHAT HAPPENS IF I AM A 1ST YEAR AND CAN’T ATTEND THE FIRST TRIAL?

If you are unable to attend the first trial day then you must let the AU Chairs know as soon as possible. In order to be fair with our selection, it is vital that you attend the first day if you are able to. Those who are unable to attend will be considered for an invite to the second round of trials but it will be at the discretion of the AU Chairs, Coaches and Netball Programme Manager.

WHAT HAPPENS IF I AM NOT SUCCESSFUL AT MAKING A BUCS TEAM?

If you are not successful in gaining a place within the AU Netball Club then there are plenty of other opportunities to play netball here on campus.

IMS (Inter-Hall Sport): IMS is a very competitive league based competition that is played weekly among the Halls of Residence. At the end of each IMS season, standout athletes from each Hall can be be forward to be selected for  the IMS All Stars team. The IMS All Stars team receive training via the AU Netball Club for a number of weeks and then take on the BUCS 5s in an annual showdown.

Departmental and Societies: students have the opportunity to engage in social netball via their academic department and/or via some societies that wish to enter a team. It is a fun and social way to stay active and play with friends and other students.

Back to Netball: Don’t want to commit to a regular weekly training and playing schedule but enjoy netball? Back to Netball offers students the opportunity to stay active with fun and interactive netball based sessions without regular commitment.
