We have three teams that represent the university in BUCS (British Universities and Colleges Sport) and one friendly team which is non-BUCS. All the teams are selected at trials that take place in the first few weeks of the new year; during trials our riders abilities are accessed and put to the test. The teams are categorised with the letters A,B, C and D (A being the universities best riders.) The BUCS teams compete in league matches throughout the year at several different venues within their region as well as host one of their own. Competing in each league match makes the teams more likely to qualify for nationals. There are four university teams in each league, and four leagues in each region. One team and the two highest placed individuals (Championship leagues only) qualify for regionals. At regionals you have the same process for qualifying for Nationals which are held Bishop Burton college.
The competitions involve each team member being given a horse at random and trying to get the best out of them in dressage and show jumping. The dressage starts off at a preliminary level and reaches Advanced-Medium at nationals. The show jumping heights range from 85cm through to 1.20m which can be reached at nationals.
Team training sessions take place weekly currently at Brooksby Equestrian Centre.
