The recreational riding at Loughborough University is an opportunity to have fun and enjoy learning without the added pressure of competing. Lessons run weekly on Wednesday afternoons and are divided into beginners, intermediate and advanced abilities. Each week alternates between jumping and dressage, but hacking and cross country lessons are also occasionally proposed. The recreational club also offers gymkhanas and friendly competitions to celebrate the festive seasons. Recreational lessons currently take place at Barleyfields Equestrian Centre, where staff are knowledgeable and friendly. Barley Fields have a large selection of friendly horses and ponies to suit every standard.
Please join our recreational Facebook group to keep up to date with all that is going on and to ask any questions.
I have enjoyed the real friendly spirit of rec riding, everyone supports one another and has a good giggle in the lessons. It has also been really fun to try so many different types of horses and have the opportunity to do lots of flatwork exercises but also jumping too. It was so much fun to go out into the working hunter field last week as well! -Devon Perfect
I love going to the stables whilst I’m here at Loughborough university. The teaching is fantastic, I progress a huge amount every lesson. My confidence in riding has grown so much over the past year and it’s lovely to spend time with like minded people. -Emily Lukes
This year, rec riding has been a very enjoyable experience. Each week we have learnt something new, whether it be flatwork or jumping. The instruction at the riding centre is great and there is a variety of horses to ride, with the opportunity to ride a different horse each week. The social side of riding is also good, and I have made new friends who are like minded people. We have also had some social events which have been great fun! -Amy Whitehead
