Winners of 75 of the last 80 Mens and Womens outdoor BUCS (or equivalent) Track and Field Championships, LSAC is by far the most successful British student athletics club of the last four decades.
Ambitions of many athletes, however, are much higher and International stars such as Seb Coe, David Moorcroft, Paula Radcliffe, Steve Backley, Haley Tullet, Lisa Dobriskey and Chris Rawlinson are counted as alumni.There are approaching 100 current or former students who have now taken part in the Summer Olympic Games and medal winners at recent Olympic Games or World Championship include Robbie Grabarz, Goldie Sayers, Nicola Sanders, Martyn Rooney, Harry Aikines Aryeetey and Emily Diamond.
LSAC has also provided thirteen Gold medal winners in European u23 Championships since its inception in 1997
It is not all about Elite level performance,m however, with a large membership of over 350 athletes, the club caters for a wide range of abilities from club and regional level athletes up to Olympic medal winners.
With a large coaching team and excellent Indoor, Outdoor and strength training facilities, the club provides wide ranging competition opportunities ; from Cross-Country Leagues for men and women, to Indoor and Outdoor competitive programmes including open meetings as well as Inter-Institutional matches open to all club members , with the additional highlights of both the LIA – the Annual International fixture against GB Juniors and International select teams, and LEAP, the Loughborough European athletics Promotion permit meet
There are increasingly a number of high level event specific competitions too ; The Winter Throws Fest; The Alan Bertram Memorial Hammer Competition; The Loughborough Javelin Carnival and in 2017 a Loughborough BMC Meet
The club trains in event groups throughout the week with generic club days on Tuesday, Thursday, Saturday and Sunday.Loughborough also host the UKA Performance Institute which provides medical and coaching support for athletes on the World Class Podium/Development/Talent programmes, whilst there are also Loughborough University Scholarships along with 1st team squad support programmes that provide additional support services such as physiotherapy and sports massage.
